This is a city increasingly and largely dominated by wealthy tech companies and YOUNG workers. 30 is considered old here, 35 very old, 40 and up.. ancient. There are basically zero good jobs for people over 45.Some low-paying part time, and even then, it's all young people. Weather is beautiful, but having lived in five states and traveled to virtually every major US city and many overseas, I can safely say insane cost of housing (avg.1 bedrom apt. in SF is $3,800/mo), super high state tax 13.5%, and utterly dominant tech you culture make the Bay Area one of the -worst- places to retire anywhere -- unless you are extremely. wealthy.
Transportation is available. Easy access to Beach and Park with many non-hill streets. Nice community. Friendly shops. Great schools.
Unfortunately this is an unfriendly city to individuals 50+. I have traveled for Blue Cross of CA and San Francisco has a bad attitude to even its most qualified and educated seniors.
Cultural attractions: museums, opera, symphony, great restaurants. High cost of living, but if you can afford it, no place better
